The rising sun aroused Meylia from her sleep. She sat up wiped at her eyes; she haven't realized that tears had escaped her during her slumber again. Then Meylia was overcome by the thought of what day it was: reaping day. She started shaking; she need to get out of the house. Stumbling out of day, the brunette bounded outdoors, even though she was still in her night clothes. Meylia headed down the familiar, well worn path to the only place she ever felt comfortable, the ocean. The sea beckoned her to take a morning swim, but Meylia didn't want to face the wrath of her mother by showing up back at her house with dripping wet hair on reaping day. The girl sighed and gazed out to the glistering blue curtain, wishing she could dive in and never come back up again.
After a few moments of a peaceful silence, she controlled herself to go back home before her parents sent somebody looking for her. Meylia, however, took her time walking back, eying everyone in their special reaping clothes. Finally she arrived home to a empty house. Meylia sighed and quickly changed into the pretty blue dress that was laid out for her. Honestly, she didn't expect much from her parents after her sister's suicide death in the arena, so seeing the dress out for her came as a pleasant surprise. She inspected herself in the cracked full length mirror that was banished to the back corner of house. The dress fitted her right but Meylia felt so awkward in it. Most likely because she realized with a jolt that its previous owner was her dear departed sister.

The town square where the reaping was held was packed with early comers, eager to catch of glimpse of this year's tributes. Looking at them made her sick to her stomach, so Meylia quickly hurried over to her group of kids to stand with. The girls in her group were all talking exciting to each other and Meylia resisted the urge to roll her eyes at them. She hated the fact that her district, her home, was considered a so-called 'Career' district in the Hunger Games. It was like all they did there was train for the Capitol's games. Though Meylia thought sullenly that there was some tributes and kids for that matter who did that basically, just train for that chance to bring glory home.
Meylia looked up at the stage when the rather insane-looking lady from the Capitol walked up to the microphone that was already set up for her. She listened as the strange lady describe how this year's Quarter Quell was going to work. The girl thought about what she said, her mind racing. Meylia let out a gasp when she realized what was going. The victors were going in with the tributes... and they weren't coming out. She couldn't even imagine how her District's victors were feeling; they knew that two of them were going to have go back into the arena and die, no matter what. A lump appeared in Meylia's throat when she realized that if her sister would've won, then she had a chance to go back in the arena.
However Meylia was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she didn't even prepare herself was what was happening in that moment. In one moment, she consumed with the thought of her sister, then the next Meylia heard her name being projected over the microphone and she found everyone in the area craning to get a look at the 75th Hunger Games female tribute. She didn't have time to process that she was going into the arena when her feet led her up to the stage. Now with most people in the district staring at her with different emotions of jealousy, pity, worry, and uninterest, Meylia was overcome with the thought that she never had time to realize. She was going into the arena, where her sister had died, where hundreds of other kids have died, where most people in her district would kill to be in. Meylia started shaking again when the Capitol lady pulled out the slip for the male tribute of District 4.
