Personality:

Shimmer is a very straight forward girl. She says what she thinks, and she does what she wants. That is if her parents will allow it. She is very guarded, and has been extremely sheltered. She believes what she is told, and never guesses it. In many ways she is naive, and her youth shows. Underneath her inexperience is a survivor. She is strong willed and will do everything in her power to live. Even if she has never actually had anything to truly live for. Her parents are more like drill sergeants, and the closet thing she has ever had to a friend is a sparring partner. The only human she has ever truly loved was her grandmother, and that was years ago. She is a cold and hollow young woman, who knows nothing aside from blind determination. She lacks in people skills, and is even less capable of talking to boys. Her life is a game, and if she loses it means dire consequences. She has had to fight for everything she has, and expects nothing less from the world. Living is cruel, and it is painful. Shimmer has only managed to keep her sanity because she refuses to question her life. If she did, her entire world would crumble. She does not see that she is just a pawn for the capitol.

Shimmer is not the most intelligent girl, she can read and write, and she comprehends well. However, she fails to see the world before her. She is gullible and only believes what she is told to believe. It is not in her nature to rebel, she is a soldier. She doesn’t think much for herself, she is uncomfortable if someone is not there to provide directions for her. She feels like she should always have someone at her side barking orders, except for the few hours of the day she has to herself. She enjoys her quiet time, when she has nothing to do, and no one to answer to. Shimmer has always been told that she was lovely, but she views her beauty as simply another tool for survival. If seducing a boy means she can live to fight another day then good for her. Or, if it means that she can get a few feet closer to kill him then even better. Love and friendships are not something that Shimmer is looking for. She actually sees them as a disadvantage. She however, does allow herself the occasional fantasy that once the games are over she will settle down, and raise her own future tribunes.

Strengths:

• Agile – She is small and slender, which enables her to move about, and make little or no sound. She is very stealthy, and under the right circumstances can go completely unnoticed as she tracks her targets.
  
  
• Fast – Her legs are small but strong, she can run fast, and is not afraid to run away so that she can survive to face her enemies another day.
  
  
• Cunning – She is very smart, and calculating. She is able to predict, or at least give a good guess as to what her enemies will do next. In her mind the game is like a giant chess board, and she is constantly narrowing down her opponents moves.
  
  
• Good with medium range weapons – She can throw things, or shoot things with deadly accuracy. She is great with a bow and arrow, and small throwing daggers.
  

Weaknesses:

• Weak – She is very small, and has almost no upper body strength. She would most certainly loose in hand to hand combat.
  
  
• Poor with blunt weapons – She doesn’t have the strength for bashing and hacking. She can barely lift most of the weapons, and though she knows the mechanics of how to use them, she can’t actually handle them with any accuracy.
  
  
• Lack of Patience – She hates waiting, and doing nothing. She would rather be fighting for her life then sitting around rubbing sticks together in hopes for a fire. Adrenalin pumps quickly through her veins, and fighting makes her feel alive. She would rather seek out a fight, opposed to waiting for it to come to her.
  
  
• Paranoid –She doesn’t trust anyone, which means she is never able to get the rest she needs. She is constantly worrying, and looking over her shoulder. This hinders her concentration, and makes her senses weaker.

Likes:

• Candy – Shimmer has always been on a strict diet as part of her training to become a future tribune. A treat is an extreme rarity, which she appreciates. Usually she is forced to acquire such things secretly so her parents do not find out.
  
  
• Water – Rain, lakes, or in a glass, she simply likes the stuff. As part of her training her parents sometimes withhold it from her, to try and build up her tolerance for not having it. They believe it will make her stronger in the arena. However, she sees it as a cruel torture. She appreciates it more than ever. She can swim also swim very well.
  
  
• Sleeping – She enjoys simply doing nothing. It is effortless, and she likes the refreshed feeling afterward.
  

Dislikes:

• Thunder and Lighting – She loves the rain, but hates when it brings its friends. The sudden noise and lights frighten her. A deep routed fear that her parents could never beat out of her. She is rendered completely useless during heavy thunderstorms, because she is paralyzed by fear.
  
  
• The Dark – She is a very twitchy girl, and having one of her senses hindered makes her extremely nervous. She likes to know what is going on around her, and she likes to see if things are coming in the night to attack her.
  

Unique Abilities:

Speed – Shimmer is a fit, small, agile girl who can move quickly and silently through any terrain. As long as her legs are not injured she can escape, and that might be the difference between life and death.

Important People:

The only person(s) of interest to Shimmer are her parents. She has had friends, or the more accurate term being sparring partners, but never anyone close. She had a relationship with her grandmother before she passed, but that was when she was seven. She has never had a boyfriend, although she has been interested in several attractive men around her age. However, she never understood the point of allowing herself to fall in love. She liked to toy with the idea that after she was no longer eligible for the reaping she would settle down with a nice man, and train future tribunes of her own.

History:

Shimmer is a born, bred, and raised tribune. Her mother and father both valiantly promoted themselves during their eligible years to compete. However, they were never successful. In a district where almost every teenager is fighting for a chance to prove themselves in the arena most never get past the reaping. Her parents pushed, and encouraged her to do what they could not. They wanted to live vicariously through her glory. Shimmer was never treated as a daughter, but more of a show dog, whom they had spent well over a decade grooming for her moment in the spotlight. This never bothered Shimmer. She had never known any different, and growing up in a world, where children were raised to be sent to their deaths was the norm and she never questioned her parents. They trained her with what weapons she showed promise in, and taught her how to survive in the wilderness. They gave her random scenarios, and made her study past ‘hunger games’ seasons. Between the ‘mock’ fights for her life they primed her, and worked on her appearance. As one of the most important parts of the game happens before a tribune actually enters the arena. The interview with Cesar Flickerman. One must be poised, flashy, and sexy if they are to win the hearts of the people in the district. The more fans one has, the more gifts they will receive in the arena. Shimmer has no siblings.

Views on the game:

They are simply a part of life. She accepts it, and has never questioned it. The thought that she could be disgusted by it has never occurred to her. She was raised as if she were a Spartan, ready for battle. It is pure survival.
